A bill poster from December 16th 1853, originating from Thomas William Usherwood Robinson, objecting to the proposals of a new burial ground in Houghton-le-Spring. Thomas was an influential and wealthy resident - and also the Churchwarden - not somebody you'd expect to object to the proposals! Copyright © Books of the North 2010. Dozens of these posters were erected around Houghton, continuing a long line of correspondence, which was also communicated via the local press! |
